The only disability in life is a bad attitude
Community Based Rehabilitation for the Differently Abled

This program began in 2017 as a micro project in 130 villages of Kadur and Chikmagalur taluks with the support of CBR forum, Bengaluru.

Bringing an attitudinal and structural change by spreading awareness on social inclusion and disability friendly environment to institutions in Chikmagalur was the major activity.

In 2011 with the support of CBR Forum India CMSSS extended this project to 2 districts of Hassan and Chikmagalur becoming a pilot Project of CBR Forum in whole of India called Mainstreaming of persons with disabilities.

The interventions of the mainstreaming program were focused around Health, Education, Livelihood, Social and Empowerment.

The program has evolved into a sustainable model by forming CBOs called Disabled peoples organizations(DPO) at village, block and district levels. By 2016 Sarvodhaya vikalachethanara okkuta – district level Disabled peoples organization was formed in 2 Districts of Hassan and Chikmagalur.

155 VDPOs, 9 TDPOs and 2 DDPOs are actively functioning in Hassan and Chikmagalur Districts.

The District Disabled Peoples Organization of Hassan is registered in April 2019 and the process of registration of DDPO at Chikmagalur is initiated. The next two years of hand-holding is crucial for the sustainable functioning of these DDPOs.
